SQL Saturday 48 – Columbia SC
I had the opportunity to attend another SQL Saturday event and I am very happy that I didn’t let not feeling well stop me from driving over 600 miles round trip for the event. I met some awesome people and got to hear some great sessions. After three Powershell sessions I finally feel comfortable enough to pull down some scripts from some blogs and start my journey with Powershell. A big hat’s off to Aaron Nelson and Eric Humphrey for taking time out of your Saturday to teach us. One of the highlights of my trip was getting to meet the legendary Andy Warren and Andy Leonard. I was able to sit through Andy Warren’s session on building a professional development plan. I took a lot of notes during that one. I ended the day with Geoff Hiten reviewing “BAD SQL”. I think I could probably download his presentation and watch it a few more times. By the end of the day I had very few brain cells left to soak up his presentation but DANG he knows his stuff and I think we are all guilty of some of the things he covered. Another highlight of the trip was being able to participate in discussions and being awarded TWO tickets for free books. I put them to good use. A good friend of mine presented on “To click or type, that is the question”. Congratulations David Taylor for stepping up and helping out. I was actually going to ride up with David but I didn’t think I would be able to make the trip. Luckily later that afternoon I started feeling much better and all the hype on Twitter convinced me to suck it up and drive. I hope to do like David soon and do my first presentation, I think I will start with our local PASS Chapter first. I have the idea for what to present and need to get it all out of my head and written down. Thanks to all the presenters, sponsors, and volunteers for putting on such a great event.
